Our HistoryIn the year of our Lord, 1885, a small group of people in the Augusta area banned together to have Lutheran church services. Rev. Baumbauch, a member of the Iowa Synod, residing in Fall Creek, became the first pastor, holding the first service on July 26, 1885. They met in a small building located on the Culbertson lot, which had been the first school building in Augusta. (The present church is located on this same lot.) The building was dedicated on January 22, 1886 and the congregation was officially organized on October 9, 1886. It was decided to have worship services every three weeks in the afternoon. The following men signed their names to the Articles of Incorporation:
August Bartig August Schulz Friedrich Luedtke Wilhelm Brunzel August Stephan Wilhelm Giebel Johann Doehr Carl Bleich Julius Kroll Whelm Gallow Johann Rosenbaum Friedrich Bethke Hermann Irahl Friedrich Wiegand Michael Rick Carl Rick Johann Rosenbaum Christian Rick Carl Zank Wilhelm Radtke The following rules were agreed upon: 1. The congregation will be named St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church 2. Each member on his own will pay the pastor his salary. 3. The annual meeting will fall on the second Tuesday in January. 4. The council members of the congregation will prepare the Articles of Incorporation. On January 24, 1905, a resolution passed to build the present church. Mr. Paul Wenzle of Eau Claire was hired as architect and builder with Mr. W.E. Johnson of Augusta to construct the basement. Work on the foundation was begun on April 3, the first nail was driven on April 11 and the project was completed on July 30. Consecration of the new church took place on that day with Rev. H. Freitag, Belgrade, MN, conducting the ceremonies. Pastoral Care St. Paul's: 1885-Rev. Carl Baumbauch 1919-Rev. J.M. Johnson 1922-Rev. Matter 1932-Rev. F.
